جمع الشيخ محمد بن إبراهيم بن جعفر النعماني المعروف بإبن أبي زينب المتوفي سنة (385ه) في كتابه: (الغيبة) الأحاديث التي رواها الشيوخ عن أمير المؤمنين والأئمة الصادقين إلى آخر من روي عنه منهم عليهم السلام في هذه الغيبة ليؤكد حجتهم بوقوعها ويصدّق ما آذنوا به منها، ومنه ما جاء في الروايات المتصلة، وكل ذلك يأتي للقول بصحة ما في (الغيبة) سنداً ومتناً، وجعله في أبواباً صدّرها بذكر: ما رُوي في صون سرّ آل محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم عمّن ليس من أهله، والتأدب بآداب أولياء الله في ستر ما أمروا بستره عن أعداء الدين والنصّاب والمخالفين وسائر الفرق من المبتدعين والشاكين والمعتزلة الدافعين لفضل أمير المؤمنين. ثم ما رُوي في أن الأئمة إثنا عشر إماماً وذكر ما يدل عليه من القرآن والتوراة والإنجيل من ذلك، بعد نقل ما روي من طريق العامة في ذكر الأئمة الإثني عشر. ثم ما رُوي فيمن ادّعى الإمامة، ومن زعم أنه إمام وليس بإمام ...، ثم ما رُوي في أن الله لا يخلي أرضه من حجّة، ثم ما رُوي في صفته وسيرته، ثم ما نزل في القرآن فيه، ثم ما رُوي من العلامات التي تكون قبل ظهوره تدلّ على قيامه وقرب أمره (...) وغير ذلك مما روي حتى بلغت الأبواب (26) باباً آخرها ما رُوي في مدة ملك القائم عليه السلام بعد قيامه.
ولأهمية هذا الأثر صححه وعلّق عليه العلامة الشيخ حسين الأعلمي بعد إجراء جملة من التعديلات على الطبقة القديمة التي تمثلت في: مقابلة هذه النسخة على نسخ أخرى، وإذافة ما يلزم وشرح بعض الألفاظ المبهمة وترقيم أبواب الكتاب، ثم فصل الأحاديث وترقيمها بأرقام متسلسلة على امتداد الكتاب تسهيلاً للقارئ في الرجوع إلى الحديث المطلوب.
