هذه المقالات والنصوص والدراسات، التي كانت نشرتها مجلة الحديث الحلبية في الثلث الثاني من القرن الماضي، إنما ننشرها هنا لأن جلّها ما يزال في ذلك الظل القصيّ بين صفحات المجلة، ولم يتح له أن ينشر في أعمال أصحابه فظل بعيداً عن التداول لدى جمهرة القراء بالعربية، ولأننا وجدناها جديرة بأن تذاع في الناس، وخاصة هذه الأيام! إنها تقدم لنا مشهداً لما كانت تغتني وتعتني به الحياة العربية في تلك الحقبة، يمثله "أعلام" يجدر بنا أن نحتفي بهم تقديراً لإسهاماتهم المشهودة: أعلام في الشعر (نزار قباني، وعلي محمود طه، وإبراهيم ناجي، وأبو القاسم الشابي)، وأعلام في الفكر (سلامة موسى، ومصطفى عبد الرازق، وقسطنطين زريق)، وأعلام في الأدب (محمود تيمور، وتوفيق الحكيم، وميخائيل نعيمة، ووداد السكاكيني، وسهير القلماوي، وأحمد زكي أبو شادي)، وغيرهم.
وإنما يمكننا هنا أن نقول: إن ما ينتظمه هذا السفر من النصوص والمقالات يفتح المشهد العربي يومذاك على الحلم الكبير، حلم الأمة بالوحدة والحرية والتقدم، يمثله قسطنطين زريق في بحثه "التربية القومية"، ومقالة سامي الكيّالي في ذكرى عبد الرحمن الكواكبي. وهو مشهد يتبصّر في الماضي ليرشد موقفنا من تاريخنا كما في بحث قسطنطين زريق في هذا الشأن، ولكنه مشهد مفتوح على الآخر يسترفد ما لديه مما يعضده هذا الحلم كما في دراسة ابراهيم ناجي عن فولتير داعية الحرية الموطّىء للثورة الفرنسية، مثلاً؛ أو يحاوره بالتي هي أحسن بنقد آرائه على بصيرة إذا تعلق الأمر بالقيم الكبرى.
