الموشحات من الفنون الشعرية الجميلة التي ابتكرها العرب في فردوسهم المفقود: الأندلس، ولقد لقيت إهتماماً كبيراً من لدن الباحثين والدارسين عرباً ومستشرقين، حتى ليخيل إلى الباحث أنهم لم يدعوا فيها شيئاً دون أن يقتلوه بحثاً ودراسة.
وقد اهتدى الكاتب إلى البحث في عالمه المفضّل: الموشحات، ولكن في بلاد الشام لا في الأندلس، ليحاول الكشف عن كنز من كنوز التراث العربي المجيد، فكان هذا البحث؛ ولقد استوى البحث في تمهيد وأربعة فصول، فاما التمهيد فقد تناول فيه الأحوال السياسية والإجتماعية والثقافية في بلاد الشام خلال المدة التي درسها، إنطلاقاً من ضرورة فهم الأدب من خلال فهم الواقع الذي يعيشه الأديب، ويترعرع فيه.
وأما الفصل الأول فقد تناول فيه تعريف الموشح في اللغة وفي الإصطلاح البلاغي وفي الإصطلاح الشعري، وتعليل تسمية الموشح، ومخترعيه، وتحقيق كلام ابن بسام على نشأة الموشح، وأدوار نشأة الموشح، وأسباب كساد الموشحات الأولى، وشكل الموشح ومضمونه، وأسباب نشاة الموشحات، وعلاقة الموشحات الأندلسية بالغناء، وإنتقال فن التوشيح إلى بلاد المشرق.
أما الفصل الثاني فقد خصص بتأريخ لحركة الموشحات في بلاد الشام، وتبيان أهميتها عند الأدباء والشعراء الشاميين، والكلام على المعارضات فيها، وعلاقتها بالغناء، والرقص، ثم ترجم الوشاحين الشاميين تراجم مختصرة دالة عليهم، مراعياً التسلسل الزمني لحياتهم بحسب القرون، وهناك موشحات وردت غفلاً عن ذكر أسماء أصحابها مع إحتمال أن يكونوا شاميين، أثبت مطالعها تحت عنوان: "الموشحات الغفل"؛ وأما الفصل الثالث فقد أفرده للكلام على أغراض الموشحات الشامية التي كانت متنوعة مختلفة، بينما خصص الفصل الرابع بالكلام على خصائصها الفنية والموضوعية، وقد أشار في خاتمة البحث إلى أهم نتائجه وثماره.
