يؤرخ الدكتور مقداد رحيم على هذه الصفحات، لنقد الشعر في عصر بني الأحمر الأندلسي. وقد اقتضى هذا الكتاب أن يؤرخ الشعر في هذا العصر، وأن يتناول أهم القضايا المطروحة فيه مما دار عليه الكلام ونال الاهتمام. وقد جاء ضمن تمهيد وأربعة فصول، تناول المؤلف في التمهيد عرضاً سريعاً للنشاط النقدي في الأندلس عموماً، ليلمح من خلاله إلحاحاً إلى أن نقد الشعر في عصر بني الأحمر لم يتخلف من فراغ، ولم يكن منقطع الجذور عما سبقه في العصور الماضية، واستأثر كل فصل من فصول هذا الكتاب بالتاريخ لاتجاه من اتجاهات نقد الشعر التي استدعى منهج البحث أن تكون أربعة فصول.
تناول الفصل الأول النقد النظري، وأما الفصل الثاني فقد تناول الاتجاه التاريخي الذي كان من الاتجاهات البارزة في نقد الشعر في ذاك العصر، وأما الفصل الثالث فقد كان خاصاً باختيار النصوص الشعرية، وتناول الفصل الرابع النقد الفني الذي جاء في آخر في فصل من فصول هذا الكتاب لتأتي بعده الخاتمة والتي ألمت بأهم النتائج التي تمخض عنها البحث.
