إن ما يميز موسيقانا العربية هو تعدد المقامات والإيقاعات المختلفة التي تُعطيها خيارات متنوعة تعزز التأليف الأُفُقي- أي اللحني – وتساعد في إغنائه، مِن هنا كانت وما زالت الموشَّحات تَضم كنوز الموسيقى العربية في المقامات والإيقاعات، وهي بمثابة مرجع كبير للموسيقيين والباحثين. عُرفت الموشَّحات قديماً بأنّها كلام منظوم على وزن مخصوص (ابن سناء المُلك) اكتملت في الأندلس في نهاية القرن الثالث الهجري بعد تطور، خلال فترة الحكم العربي لها في ظل ظروف اجتماعيةٍ خاصةٍ وعوامل بيئيةٍ معينةٍ. ولم يتوصل أحد على وجه التحديد إلى هوية من بدأها ولا في أي سنة حصل هذا. ولا نريد أن ندخل بأسماء كي لا نذكر روايات متعددة ليست من اهتمامات الكتاب. إلا أنه قد تميزت الموشحات عن القصائد التي كانت مسيطرة على شكل بناء الشعر العربي بتنوع القوافي والأوزان والأجزاء، الأمرُ الذي يسمح بتشكل كُتل إيقاعية متنوعة موسيقياً، وفضاءاتٍ نغميةٍ لا تُحدُ، وهي تجمع عادةً خليطاً بين الفصحى والعامية. نحاول في هذا الكتاب وضع مادة رصينة بين يدي القارئ تساعده على التأمل في الإنتاج الموسيقي والغنائي، وتساعده أيضاً على إدراك قيمة تراثنا العربي... وكل ذلك من خلال مادة الموشحات وما تحمله من رسالة في الفن والجمال التي تُعد ركناً أساسياً في غنائنا العربي.
