تدرس الجغرافية الطبية العلاقة المتبادلة بين الإنسان والبيئة بتفاصيلها وما تخلفه من ضرر على صحة الإنسان، ويدخل في ذلك الاهتمام بطبيعة نشاطات الإنسان في البيئة ودرجة احتكاكه بها ونوع هذه البيئة طبيعياً واجتماعياً. إضافة إلى اهتمامها بدراسة الأمراض نوعاً وبنية تهتم الجغرافية الطبية بالبيئة وتدرس وسائل السيطرة عليها.
يحتوي هذا الكتاب على عرض أو إشارة للدراسات في الجغرافية الطبيعة منذ هيبوقراط 377-460ق.م، حتى أحدث الدراسات بغية الوقوف على تاريخها وعلى بدايات المبادئ التي اعتمدت في هذا الفرع من الجغرافيا. كما يتناول فيه المؤلف أيضاً المبادئ في الجغرافية الطبية وأساسياتها المعتمدة فيما يرتبط بالمضمون والمنهج، إضافة إلى تأكيده على دور العرب ومساهمتهم في هذا الفرع. كما يناقش العوامل المؤثرة في نشأة الأمراض وانتشارها وهي عوامل جغرافية وأخرى باثولوجية.
ويتحدث المؤلف كذلك على التوزيع الجغرافي للأمراض في العالم، ويعرض لكل مرض وخصائصه ومسبباته وبيئته المناسبة، ويعرض للدراسات في الجغرافية الطبية.
