يحكي هذا الكتاب حكاية "أحمد" مع "وحش البازلاء الأخضر" والذي ما أن رآه أحمد على طاولته حتى صرخ به قائلاً "ابتعد عني يا وحش البازلاء الأخضر، فأنت لست صديقي وأنا لا أحبك"، إلا أن وحش البازلاء استطاع أن ينال محبة أحمد ولكن، بعد أن قصَّ عليه حكايته الجميلة عندما كان حبَّة "بازلاء" صغيرة لطيفة.
استمع أحمد إلى حكاية وحش البازلاء ورفاقه في الحقل، وعرف منه كم هم تعساء لأن الأطفال لا يتناولونهم على مادة الطعام، على الرغم من أنهم مادة مغذية وضرورية للنمو، في تلك اللحظة، ربّت أحمد على كتف وحش البازلاء ثم قال: لا تحزن يا وحش البازلاء، أنت تحتاج إلى قليل من التغيير، وبعدها سوف تكون وحشاً سعيداً وجميلاً".
وهكذا وعلى الرغم من أن أحمد لا يحب طعام البازلاء، أضاف أفكاره المدهشة إلى الطبق... وبدأ ورفاقه الأطفال يحبونه ويدعونه وقت الوجبات...
"وحش البازلاء" قصة طريفة ومفيدة، تهتم بطعام الطفل، وتتوجه إليه مباشرة، سيطالعها الأطفال بشوق وإهتمام وذلك بفضل أسلوب تأليفها البسيط والجديد والرسومات الجميلة التي تحويها.
يتهرّبُ معظم الأطفال من تذوّق البازلاّء، أو أطعمة صحّيّة أخرى. هذه الحكاية الطّريفة والسّلسة محاولة ذكيّة لإقناع الطّفل بتناول الخضار الصّحّيّة، عبر حكاية حبوب البازلاّء الّتي تحوّلت من فرط حزنها وغضبها إلى وحش؛ إلاّ أنّ أحمد بطل القصّة يجعل من هذا الوحش كائنًا لطيفًا مرغوبًا.
