ونظراً لما تمثله القضايا السكانية من أهمية بالنسبة للعديد من البلدان وخاصة تلك التي تعاني من قلة في الأراضي الزراعية وتقصٍ في المياه. يصبح التوجه نحو المعرفة السكانية في غاية الأهمية بالنسبة للمجتمع، ذلك أن المشاكل الرئيسية هي في الأساس سكانية كالبطالة والفقر وغيرها من مشاكل التنمية المختلفة.
إنطلاقاً من هذا الفهم يتوجه هذا الكتاب إلى نوعين من القراء، الأول هو الذي تهمه المطالعة العامة كونه من المواضيع الهامة في المجتمع حاضراً ومستقبلاً، أما الثاني فيشمل الطلبة المقدمين على الدراسة في هذا الإختصاص والباحثين في القضايا السكانية من علماء إجتماع وإحصاء وجغرافية وغيرهم.
