هذا المجلد هو الأول من ديوان أبي نواس الذي يصدر في طبعته الجديدة، ويشتمل على الحدّ الأول من رواية حمزة الأصبهاني، ويضمّ الأبواب الخمسة التالية: 1-مقدمة في أوصاف شعره وأحواله في تعاطي القريض"، 2-شعر النقائض "نقائضه مع الشعراء وأخباره معهم ومع القيان"، 3-المدائح، 4-المراثي، 5-العتاب. فقد قسّم حمزة الديوان في مجموعه إلى خمسة حدود، أو بعبارة أخرى إلى خمسة عشر باباً. وقد ألحق في هذا الكتاب قصائد الشعر الزائدة الواردة في الرواية المحتمل نسبتها إلى توزون. هذه القصائد تخصّ الباب السادس: الهجاء، والباب السابع: الزهد، والباب الثامن: الطرد. وبذلك زاد عدد قصائد الزهد المنسوبة إلى أبي نواس زيادة كبيرة، حيث يرجح نسبتها إليهم أكثر من نسبتها إلى أبي نواس ورغم ذلك فقد فضّل المحقق إدراجها في النص، وبذلك يكون قد تمّ نشر جميع القصائد التي رجح نسبتها إلى أبي نواس أحد الرواة الثلاثة على الأقل. وقد تمّ تشكيل النصّ، وروعيت كذلك اختلافات التنقيط، وتم ترقيم القصائد حسب أبوابها.
