تظهر أهمية إنتاج نور الدين السالمي من الناحية العلمية ولا سيما في كتابيه: «تحفة الأعيان»، و«الحق الجلي» في كونه نوعا من التبرير السياسي للدين، فهاجس الإمامة عنده بوصفها «يوتوبيا دينية» لا ينفك عن مسار إنتاجه الديني والتاريخي وفعله الاجتماعي المؤثر؛ فهو لا يُحجم البتة عن إثارة العاطفة الدينية لبناء هذه السلطة المثالية، وهي في الآن نفسه جزءٌ من الأنساق والبنى والتحولات الاجتماعية فلا تشتغل خارجها، أو خارج التاريخ؛ أي أن الإمامة «أدلوجة» أو فكرة مسبقة، ومعطى بديهي علينا أن نقبلها ونعتقد بأهميتها دون نقاش؛ كالدولة تماما في النظرية السياسية.
