تم عقد الكثير من اتفاقيات التكامل والتعاون الإقتصادى فيما بين الدول النامية، إلا أن معظم هذه التجارب لم تحقق النجاح المأمول منها بالمقارنة ببعض التجارب الناجحة للتكامل بين الدول الأوروبية مثل تجربة الأتحاد الأوربي وغيرها. وتعد تجربة مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربي من التجارب المثيرة للاهتمام فى التكامل الدولى الاقليمى، والجديرة بالدراسة والتقويم، لا سيما وأن هذه التجربة جاءت نتاجاً طبيعياً للتطور التاريخي فى منطقة الخليج العربي، بمعنى أنها ثمرة تطور تدريجي فى العلاقات بين الكيانات السياسية والإجتماعية القائمة عبر مسارها التاريخي.
وإنطلاقاً مما تقدم سوف نستعرض تلك التجربة بالتفصيل من خلال المحاور التالية:-
