"مضى ما يقرب من الشهرين، ويوم عودته، بعد أن سلّم علينا وسألنا عن أحوالنا قال: لقد أخذت إجازة 20 يوماً، سوف أصلح السور، وبسرعة بدأ العمل.
في اليوم الأوّل أنزل الحجارة، وفي اليوم التّالي... وعندما أراد أن يبدأ ببقيّة العمل قدم أحد الشباب من الحرس بطلبه، تحدثا، ثمّ جاء ونظر إلى عينيّ بحيرة، وقال: لقد طرأ عملٌ مهمٌّ، يجب أن أذهب... أحسست للحظة بغليان في وجهي، وأنزعجت كثيراً... حاول أن يُهدِّئني... ولم يُفلح، ماتت البسمة على شفتيه... وأصبح أكثر جِدّيّة، ولكن صوته كان يقطر حناناً وقال: انظري، أنا منذ طفولتي وأوّل شبابي!...
وحتّى عندما كانت في القرية، لم أصعد إلى سطح بيت أحد ولا تسلقت جدار أحد، ولا نظرت إلى امرأة ولا إلى عرض أحد، وأقول لك الآن:... واطمئنّي أيضاً أنّه لن يزعجك في هذا البيت أي مخلوق، لأنّي لم أزعج أحداً، لا تخافي... كلماته كانت كالماء البارد على النار.
عندما عاد من الجبهة سألني: في هذا الوقت الّذي مضى، هل أتى لصٍّ أو أيٍّ شيء آخر أم لا؟ قلت: لا... لقد كان لكلماتك أثر كبير لدرجة أنّنا عشنا براحة بال".
