الليل عند الجاهليين كان مشحوناً بالقلقِ والخوفِ والوَحْشَةِ والاضطراب، كان في مخيلة الجاهلي أن الليل عالمٌ يموجُ بالجنِّ والأشباح، أما ليل القرآن الكريم فهو آناءٌ رخيَّةٌ للعبادةِ ومناجاةِ الله ))، والتفكرِ في قدرتِه الباهرةِ وعلمِه الواسعِ. إن القرآن الكريم قد وضع للمؤمنين جميعَ السبلِ التي تمكِّنهم من التعامل مع الليل، وأعطاهم المفاتيح التي بها يدخلون إليه، فقد أرشدهم القرآنُ إلى آياتِ الليل، وفي الوقت نفسِهِ علمهم كيف ينظرون إليها ويتدبرونها، كما علمهم كيف يجعلون من الليل آناء أنسٍ ومودةٍ وخشوع. لم يكتف القرآن الكريم بتصوير الليل من جهة واحدة، ولم يتحدث عنه على وفق زمن معين، وإنما اشتمل على تصوير الليل الكبير من جميع جهاته وفي جميع أوقاته، فلم تَغِبْ جهةٌ ولا لحظةٌ من الليل عن التصوير القرآني، فلسنا نبالغ إذا قلنا: إنَّ الخطفة السريعة للشهاب المتَّقد، والومضة الخافتة من النجوم البعيدة، كانتا حاضرتين في تصوير القرآن الكريم.
