لابد لكل من قرأ هذا الكتاب بإمعان أن يعترف بأن المؤلف قد عالج بما فيه الكفاية موضوع ارتباط الفن بسائر جوانب النشاط الإنساني، بل لقد بدا في بعض المواضع ميالاً إلى النظرة الشاملة المتكاملة إلى الفن. ولكن الميل الغالب عليه هو تأكيد أهمية النظرة الخالصة إلى الفن، أي تأمل العمل الفني لأجل تأمله فحسب. وكما قلت من قبل، فإن مثل هذا التأكيد يمكن أن يكون فيه نفع عظيم، ولا سيما في الأوساط الثقافية التي يدور قدر كبير من النقد والتذوق الفني فيها "حول" العمل الفني دون أن يتغلغل فيه من داخله. فموقف المؤلف يمثل في هذا الصدد رد فعل مفيداً غاية الفائدة، على الاتجاه إلى "الالتفاف" حول الأعمال الفنية بدلاً من مواجهتها مباشرة، جدير بالذكر أنه في الكتاب من المعلومات القيمة، ومن التحليلات العميقة، ما يجعله ذا فائدة غير قليلة للباحث وللقارئ المثقف، فضلاً عن الطالب. وفي اعتقادي أنه لو تنبه المشتغلون بالفن، ممارسة ونقداً وتذوقاً، إلى هذا الكتاب، وتعمقوا قراءته، لساعد على تبديد كثير من الأوهام التي ترسبت طويلاً في النفوس، ولأدى إلى أن يكتسب تفكيرهم وتعبيرهم وحديثهم في هذا الميدان مزيداً من العمق، وهو رأيي كسب غير هين.
