يقدم هذا الكتاب سيرة تاريخية وثائقية لشخصية مهمة في التاريخ السعودي الحديث، وهو الأمير عبدالله بن عبد الرحمن الفيصل آل سعود، الذي كان له دور متشعب في مجالات عدة، فمن الناحية العسكرية شارك أخاه الملك عبدالعزيز طوال 20 سنة في معارك توحيد المملكة، وقاد بعض الحملات، ومن أبرز أعماله في هذا المجال قيادته الجيش السعودي في حصار جدة. ومن الناحية السياسية هو من أكبر الشخصيات التصاقاً بالملك عبدالعزيز، إذ كان يستشيره كثيراً ويُطلعه على أسرار الدولة، ويصطحبه معه في أغلب الاجتماعات والمؤتمرات السياسية، ويكلفه بمهام كثيرة. أما من الناحية العلمية، فقد اشتهر الأمير بلقب عالم آل سعود وفقيههم، وأنه مرجع في التاريخ السعودي والأنساب وأخبار القبائل، وكان مجلسه مجمع العلماء والأدباء والشعراء والمفكرين، كما كانت لديه مكتبة ضخمة تحوي نوادر المخطوطات والمطبوعات، وعُدت أكبر مكتبة فردية في السعودية.
