ولدت الروائية "فلورنس لويزا تشارلزورث" في الثاني من ديسمبر "كانون الأول" عام 1862 انتقلت "فلورنس" إلى "لندن" عام 1869 عرفت "فلورنس" بحرصها على ود الفقراء والغناء في المحافل الدينية.في مارس "آذار" عام 1881، تزوجت "فلورنس" وهي في الثامنة عشر من عمرها من "تشارلز دبليو باركلي" أصبحت متحدثة مفوهة حيث توجهت في رحلة إلى "أمريكا" لتلقي محاضرات عما رأته في "فلسطين". استقر الزوجان في أبرشية حيث أنجبت لزوجها ثمانية أطفال.
بعدما اعتلت صحتها، تحولت "فلورنس" إلى الكتابة، حيث ظهر أول أعمالها في عام 1905 ويسمى "عجلات الزمن" أرسلت "فلورنس" بذلك العمل والذي تلاه إلى أختها في "أمريكا" حيث كانت تنظم أعمال النشر لها، حيث حققت روايتها "المسبحة" 1909 نجاحا منقطع النظير وبيع منها 150,000 نسخة في عام. إنها شعرت بأن قدرها كان أن تكتب أعمالاً تلهم الناس كي يعيشوا حياة نقية غير ملوثة بالإثم والشرور.
بإحدى الصحف، ظهر مقال منقول عن مذكرات أختها، حيث تؤكد فيها أن "فلورنس" كانت ذات شخصية كاريزمية سريعا ما تستأثر بحب وتقدير المحيطين بها. كانت الموسيقى تمثل عاملا مهما في حياتها. ومن الجدير بالذكر أنها ارتبطت ارتباطا وثيقا بالكاتدرائية نظرا لما يلقى فيها من أناشيد وترانيم مع الموسيقى. أيضاً من أهم أعمالها "سيدات ورشستر الطاهرات" التي كانت تمثل محاولة للهروب من فظائع الحرب العالمية الأولى.
