يتناول هذا الكتاب أهم الشخصيات والأعيان والرموز الوطنية والأقطاب السياسية في المشهد العراقي البصري طيلة قرنين من الزمن.
وقد حفل بالعديد من المواد التاريخية والتراثية والإجتماعية عن مدينة البصرة الزاهرة، ومنها ذكرنا بعض العائلات العريقة والبلدات البصرية القديمة في مركز المدينة وأقضيتها ونواحيها ومنها معالم ومحلات العشار وبلدات البصرة القديمة في فترة ما قبل وبعد العهد العثماني، وأشرنا إلى المقاطعات الشرقية - مقاطعات (شط العرب) ومقاطعات البصرة الشمالية والجنوبية ومرحلة ازدهار البصرة في العهد الحميدي وفي البدء كانت المشراق ومحلاتها النواة الأولى لتكوين المدينة الحديثة - القدمة سنة (800-810ه).
وذكرنا أقدم مكتبة أهلية في البصرة تأسست في عام 1928 مع إشارات إلى إمارة (المنتفك) وأمرائها وإلى بعض الشخصيات البصرية القديمة والمعاصرة التي كان لها ثقلها السياسي والإجتماعي منها الحاج أحمد باشا الصانع (أول متصرف للبصرة) عام 1921-1937. والمرحوم حمود السلطان (رئيس عشيرة الحوار) وأسرة آل ياسين طه الريس رئيس عشيرة (المطمان)، وأسرة آل فلاح والمرحوم الشيخ أماوي الفضلي (حمولة الملأ) وعبد الجبار العجمان من وجهاء وشخصيات قرية (كوت الصلحي)، والحاج عبد الكاظم الشمخاني، وتناولنا في كتابنا إحدى الزعامات الكردية / العراقية وأوائل بيوت السادة (العباسية والهاشمية) في البصرة من عام 600ه / 1178م. لذا يعتبر كتابنا هذا من الوثائق المهمة في تاريخ وتراث البصرة الزاهرة في فترة قرنين من الزمن، في المنظور السياسي والإجتماعي والتراثي الذي تميزت به البصرة ماضياً وحاضراً.
وهو من الكتب الجديرة بالقراءة والإقتناء، لأنه يتناول حقبة تاريخية وسياسية مرت بها البصرة وهو يعني القارىء والمتقصي والمتخصص والباحث في تاريخ وتراث البصرة في القرنين الأخيرين التاسع عشر والعشرين الميلاديين.
