لم يتوصل الطب إلى كيفية نفاذ تلك العصافير الى صدر سلمى، فلجأ اهلها الى مخادع السحرة، الذين تزاحموا على غرفتها، وكل واحد منهم يقول : لدي الدواء. إلا ان شيئاً لم يحصل في النهاية، بل على العكس ازدادت الأم سلمى المسكينة. فقال احد اولئك السحرة معترفاً: "نحن نفرق بين المرء وزوجه، نسلب الإرادة، نستحضر الأرواح، ونستدعي الشياطين، ونخرج الجن من الاجساد. لكن أن نطلق العصافير من صدر فتاة، فهذا ما لا يقدر على فعله سوى الشعراء".
عندئذ، لم يبق شاعر في المدينة إلا ولجأ اليه أهل سلمى على امل ان يجدوا لديه العلاج، إلا أن أحداً منهم لم يتوصل إلى شيء فقال أكثرهم حنكة في عالم الشعر: " نحن نكتب الشعر ونغوي الناس ونهيم في الوديان وفي النهاية نبحث عن صحراء لنموت فيها . لكن أن نهدأ روع العصافير في صدر امرأة، فهذا ما لايقدر على فعله سوى... الحب ! ثم قال مودعاً: "دعو الفتاة تعشق.. لا تفزعوا عصافير قلبها"
الجدير بالذكر أن هذا الكتاب قد حاز على جائزة الملتقى للقصة العربية القصيرة.
