في هذا الكتاب يدرس الأستاذ محمد سعيد الشيخ علي الخنيزي حياة واحد من أهم رموز علماء المسلمين ورمز من رموز الأدب الإسلامي من خلال شعره وهو "الشريف الرضي" فيفيدنا بأنه بعد البحث والتدقيق وجد شعره يطابق حياته العملية وليس بينهما تباين في التطبيق وأن شعره –أي الرضي- مرآة لحياته تنعكس عليها ظلالاً وتموج أطيافها بروائع أعماله. من هنا اختار لكتابه عنوان "لمحات من وراء القرون" في ظلال الشريف الرضي".
وفي هذا السياق يبدأ الكتاب بالتعريف/ الترجمة للشريف الرضي، يلي ذلك دراسة لأعماله الشعرية حيث توزعت على أبواب: 1- باب الرثاء، 2- باب الحجازيات، 3- باب النسيب "الغزل"، 4- فصل الأمثال (الأمثال من المجلد الأول للرضي)، 5- صور من المعاني العامة لقصائد: بين ليث وكلب، من قصيدة فيا لك دنيا... الخ، وأخيراً الخاتمة وتضم السيرة الذاتية للمؤلف "الخنيزي" وأهم من كتب عنه وأعماله العلمية والأدبية...
من شعر الشريف الرضي الغزلي شذرات يقول فيها: وبي شوق إليك أعل قلبي، وما لي فير قربك من طبيب/ اغار عليك من خلوات غيري، كما غار المحب على الحبيب، وإن بعد اللقاء على اشتياقي، ترامقنا بألحاظ القلوب.
