"السفينة تعود" هي مجموع مقالات يتناول فيها الكاتب محمد سعيد الشيخ علي الخنيزي قضايا فكرية ودينية وأدبية وروحية ونفسية، تتفتح على غير حقل ومجال، وبخاصة الأزمات المرافقة لحياة الإنسان في هذا العصر.
يقول المؤلف عن عمله هذا: "... لقد أبحرت بك يا قارئي وذهبت بك في ثبج موج يكاد يبتلعنا لولا رحمة ربي وعنايته التي تحيط بعبيده (...) وخلاصة ما نريد من هذه التوطئة الفلسفية إن صح هذا التعبير أن ندخل إلى نقاط أدرناها في فصول كتابنا الذي أسميناه "السفينة تعود"، وكل الأيام جراحات تنز من قلوب البشر، وقد صورت هذه الجراحة التي مرت عليه مبضع الآسي فعالجتها وشذبتها وليس لي فيها من قوة أو دفع، بل رضيت بكل ما فيها من حلو ومر، لأنها جرت بقضاء وقدر من فاطر السماوات والأرض وكل ما يأتي منه فهو مصلحة لعبده لأننا نجهل الأسرار ...".
في الكتاب يركز المؤلف على شعرية المتنبي الذي صور خلجات النفوس وجسدها ناطقة في لغته وبخاصة ما كانت منها وليدة انفعالات نفسية وأزمات روحية ... وفي هذا السياق أيضاً حديث المؤلف عن العلاقة الزوجية وعن هموم الكاتب، وعن أهمية طاعة الله وأحاديث وحكم وإرشادات وموضوعات أخرى ذات صلة.
