نقرأ في هذا الكتاب لمحات من ذاكرة وطن، وذاكرة مناضل كرّس حياته لخدمة قضية بلادهن، إنه شريف خالد الحسيني سليل العائلة الحسينية المقدسية (ولد سنة 1938-توفي سنة 2011)، وقد بدأ بكتابة هذه اللمحات في العام 1986م في خريف العمر محاولاً-كما يقول-"أن أملأ فراغ الوقت بما يسهم في الوفاء لهدفين، أجد الترابط بينهما، ضمن اهتمامي بمتابعة تجربة جيل من النكبة الفلسطينية، أولاً، تاركاً للأجيال القادمة أن تحكم بنفسها علينا، إن كنا بذلنا أو فشلنا في تحمل قسطاً من الواجب، والهدف الثاني، أن أسجل للحفظ جملة مبادئ وأفكار إلتزمت بها طيلة حياتي، رغم تعدد مظاهر التجربة، فكلها تترابط في نظري بمحور واحد منذ أن انتسبت لحركة الوطنية في أواسط الخمسينات وحتى اليوم..".
يقسم الملف عمله إلى ستة أجزاء يبدأها برسم مصور عن شعرة العائلة (آل الحسيني)، مروراً بالنشأة والدراسة والعمل الوطني داخل وخارج حدود الوطن، يتخلل ذلك تعريف لكل واحد من أفراد العائلة ودوره ومكانته في زمن السيطرة العثمانية والانتداب الإنجليزي، ومواقفه المشرفة تجاه الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، وفي هذا السياق تحضر بيروت وأجواء النضال والمقاومة الفلسطينية، والمناصب التي تقلدها الحسيني والمهمات التي أوكلت إليه، وموقف المؤلف من قضايا عربية وإقليمية ساخنة "العراق"، "الكويت"، "لبنان". والاجتياح الإسرائيلي للمدن الفلسطينية وبداية سلسلة المجازر التي شهدها مخيم جنين ونابلس ورام الله وغيرها، ويختتم الكتاب بحديث عن عمالقة ثلاثة لا نستطيع أن نذكر فلسطين إلاّ ونتذكرهم هم من أبناء جيل الحسيني عرفهم وكتب عنهم وهم: ناجي العلي/أبو خالد أو (حنظلة)، غسان كنفاني/أبو فايز (الغزال الذي يبشر بزلزال)، ومحمود درويش الغائب الحاضر في الذاكرة الفلسطينية...
