هي وطفلها على السرير يعتصرهما الحزن والقلق ، وإحساسٌ ثقيلٌ بالهمِّ يجثم على الصدر ، ذبالة المصباح كانت على الأرض أسفل منهما ، صنعتْ لهما من الخلف ظلًّا واحدًا كبيرًا ، مدَّ الظل المأتمي نفسه على الحائط وانكسر على جزءٍ من السقف ، منكفئًا عليهما انكفاءً متابعًا مهيبًا ، ريحٌ خارجيةٌ لعبتْ بورق شجرة الرمان القريبة من النافذة المواربة ، سمع الولد وأمه حفيف ورق الشجرة ، كأنه وقع قدمي قاتل يتسلل ، اقتحمت الريح الحجرة ، اهتزَّ لهب المصباح مع الريح ، فاهتز الظل أيضًا على الحائط والسقف وتبدَّل حاله ، إنه الآن كروحٍ مضطربةٍ مذعورةٍ تكافح لتهرب من مكانٍ تُقرأ فيها العزائم ، نظر عاصم للظلِّ المضطرب ، ارتجف قلبه الصغير ، مدَّ شفته السفلى ، همس في أذن أمه بأنه خائفٌ ، نظرتْ للظلِّ ثم وضعت رأس ولدها على صدرها وقالت : وأنا أيضاً. لهذين المرعوبين قصة نُسِجت خيوطها في زمنٍ غير الزمن ومكانٍ غير المكان بأحداثٍ
