يبدأ الأستاذ روايتَه بتشبيه بديع لتلك الحُجرة التي يَسكنها الظل، وخوف (صابرة) وابنها بعد موت الأب الظهير، جموع الأمطار تَصطفُّ لتسيل عبر الطين كدموع تسبلت بالكحل الأسود، فهي لا تعني إلا الحزن والمستقبل المجهول، فهي كخط الزمن لا يتوقَّف، ففي كل زمن هناك (صابرة) وابنها وتختلِف الشخوص وحكاية الظلم واحدة!
ثم يتابِع أستاذنا سردَه واصفًا مرَّ الظلم وعلقمه ينتفخ في صدر ذاك الطفل الذي صنعوا منه وحشًا، ونزعوا منه معالم الطفولة بعملهم الأثيم، ثم يُصوِّر كِبَر الطفل، وكيف يكبر معه موت أمه وظلمها إلى أن يتحوَّل إلى وحشٍ كاسر لا يعرف من الحياة إلا معنى الثأر ولذة الانتقام.
