ويتكون المكنز من قسمين الأول: القسم المصنف ويشمل الواصفات الفولكلورية حسب التصنيف المضوعى لها ، الثاني : القسم الرئيسى ويشمل الواصفات الفولكورية الموجودة في القسم المصنف فضلا عن الواصفات غير المستخدمة وهو مرتب ترتيبا هجائيا يمكن القائم بعملية التوثيق من الحصو على الواصفة المناسبة للموضع الذي يقوم بتوثيقه وقد جرب المكنز على العديد من العناصر الفولكلورية الميدانية والمطبوعة.
