منذ نحو مائة وخمسين عاما ودوائر المثقفين فى مختلف أرجاء العالم تتداول مصطلح " الفولكلور" وتوقف عليه الدراسات والمؤلفات وتعقد عنه الدروس والحلقات ، وتنفق عيله الأموال وتنشى المتاحف بأنواعها لحفظه وصيانته فهى على الجملة لا تبخل بجهد يمكن أن يساهم فى تطوير هذا الفرع من فروع العلم الإنسان ورفع مستواه ومستوى المشتغلين به وقد استطاعت اخيرا جهود الرواد الأوائل لهذا العلم أن تؤتى ثمارها وتحقق غاياتها فاكتمل لهذا العلم الوليد مجمعة قيمة من النظريات العلمية وطور لنفسه ذخيرة نفيسة من المناهج الدراسية فاستحق بذلك ان يستقل ويتبوا مكانا عزيزا بين أسرة العلوم التى تدرس الإنسان ولم يعد من الصعب عليه بعد ذلك ان يكسب اعتراف المؤسسات الأكاديمية فأنشئت له الكراسى المتخصصة بالجامعات وأصبحت تمنح فيه الدرجات العلمية ( من الليسانس حتى الدكتوراه) وكان من الطبيعى بعد ذلك ان يستكمل استقلاله ويدعم مكانته باعتراف الهيئات العلمية الدولية به.
