قلنا في مقدّمتنا لهذه الدراسة، إنّ كتابَي المنفرد بذاته والشريعة الروحانيّة، المعتَبرين نصوصاً منسوبة للتوحيد، يندرجان في الحقيقة في إطار إشكاليّة الأصالة والحداثة؛ وتساءلنا حينها: هل تُعتَبَرُ هذه النصوص من الأصول أم من الفروع؟... أي هل لها صفة النصوص الأصليّة المعروفة عند أهل المذهب وسواهم، أم أنّها من الفروع أو الشروحات اللاحقة على هذه الأصول، كمثل ما نجده في كتابات وشروحات الأمير السيّد عبد الله التنّوخي (1417- 1479م)، والشيخ زين الدين عبد الغفّار تقيّ الدين (1511- 1565م)، وسواهما من مفكّري وشرّاح المذهب التوحيديّ - العرفاني، وقلنا إنَّ إمكانيَّة حسم هذه الإشكاليّة، هي في متناول أهل المذهب، وليس سواهم، لأنّهم أولى بالتمييز بين الأصول والفروع وبين الشروحات والإضافات المحدثة.
إنّ الإحجام عن مقاربة هذه الإشكاليّة، سواء على مستوى النصوص، أو على المستوى التاريخيّ - العقائديّ، لا يمنع من مقاربتها مصدريّاً أي في المنابع الفكريّة العرفانيّة، وغير العرفانيّة، التي يجدر النظر إليها روافدَ محتملة لمثل هذه الكتابات، سواء في الهرمسيّة الكلاسيكيّة القديمة، أو في الهرمسيّة الإسكندرانيّة، أو في النصوص اليونانيّة، الأفلاطونيّة، والأرسطيّة، والأفلوطينيّة، المنحولة، وسوى ذلك ممّا يندرج ضمن التراث اليونانيّ، واليونانيّ - الشرقيّ الغنّوصيّ.
إنّ نصوص الشريعة الروحانيّة والمنفرد بذاته، ليست نتاج مؤلّف واحد بعينه، بل هي، في ما نعتقد، تأليف جماعيّ اشترك فيه عدّة أشخاص من مؤلفين وباحثين متخصّصين في أكثر من حقل معرفيّ.
واعتقادنا هذا ارتكز إلى دراسة هذه النصوص العرفانيّة - التوحيديّة، إستناداً إلى علمي الفيلولوجيا والأتيمولوجيا اللذين يبيّنان لنا أنّ مثل هذه الأنساق المعرفيّة المتمايزة والمتباعدة في لغتها وموضوعاتها، وغير المتجانسة (Hétéroclite) أحياناً، وعلى الأخصّ في بعض أقسامها، لا بدّ من أن تعود إلى عدّة مؤلّفين على الأرجح.
ومع ذلك لا يمكننا التأكيد بصورة قطعيّة: هل يعودُ سبب هذا التباين، وعدم التجانس، إلى تعدّد المؤلّفين، وإختلاف مشاربهم وإنتماءاتهم الفكريّة، أم إلى تنوّع مصادر هذه المؤلّفات، وأغلب الظنّ أنّ الإحتمالين يقفان وراء هذا النتاج المعرفيّ الشديد التنوّع.
