بعد، فإن الصحافة المقروءة - وكما هو معروف - تعتمد في تواصلها مع جمهور القراء على الكلمة المكتوبة؛ فيما يعرف بالكتابة الصحفية، وقد ترافق ظهور الكتابة الصحفية مع ظهور الصحافة وإنتشارها، وتطورت مع تطور صناعتها وأدواتها المتعددة والمتنوعة، حتى أصبحت الكتابة الصحفية اليوم نوعاً كتابياً مميزاً له قواعده وأصوله وأسسه، كما أن للكتابة الصحفية أساسياتها وعناصرها وأساليبها وأدواتها ومستلزماتها، كما لها في الوقت نفسه سماتها المميزة وخصائصها المتفردة والأسس الخاصة بتنظيمها.
وينبغي على الصحفي - إن أراد الإستمرار بمهنته كصحفي والنجاح في عمله - أن يلم إلماماً كاملاً بأصول الكتابة الصحفية وقواعدها وأسسها وأساليبها، وبغير هذا لا يستطيع أن يفي بمتطلبات العمل الصحفي؛ وبخاصة في جانبه التحريري الذي يعد حجر الزاوية في الممارسة المهنية الصحفية، والكتابة الصحفية ترتبط إرتباطاً وثيقاً بالعملية التحريرية أو ما يطلق التحرير الصحفي، إذ تكمل إحداهما الأخرى، فلا يمكن لصحفي ما أن يصبح محرراً ناجحاً ما لم يلم بقواعد الكتابة الصحفية وأسسها كافة، ومهما توافر على مواهب ومهارات وعزم وإبداع، فإن الإلمام التام بقواعد الكتابة الصحفية يبقى هو العنصر الذي لا غنى عنه لنجاح أي محرر صحفي في عمله، وهذا لا يعني أن العناصر الأخرى ليست بذات أهمية لنجاح المحرر والصحفي عامة، بل أن هذه العناصر مجتمعة تشكل بإمتزاجها وإجتماعها المتطلبات الأساسية للنجاح في بلاط صاحبة الجلالة.
وبالنظر للأهمية القصوى للكتابة الصحفية وللتحرير الصحفي في الممارسة المهنية للمحرر والصحفي عامة، فقد حاولنا في هذا الكتاب الإلمام بالأطراف الأساسية لهما، وبالإستفادة من مراجع كثيرة حوت كل ما يتعلق بهذا الشأن؛ وامتزجت فيها خلاصة إبداعات نخبة من الخبراء والكتاب العرب والأجانب، وبما ينفع الصحفي ويوفر له الذخيرة اللازمة التي يتطلبها النجاح والتميز في عمله الصحفي، إذ حرصنا على أن نتناول ضمن هذا الإطار؛ بإستفاضة تارة وبتركيز شديدة تارة أخرى، كل ما يمكن ان ينفع المحرر والصحفي عامة ولا سيما المبتدئ وكذلك طلبة الصحافة والإعلام، ويزيد من معارفهم ويطور مهاراتهم.
