"ما لم نلتمس البياض والفراغ، وما لم نُنْصِت إلى الصمت في ذواتنا، في ما يُحِيطُ بنا من طبيعة وأشياء، وما لم ندفع البياض والصمت والفراغ، وكلّ ما هو شاغر في الصفحة ليتوازَى مع المكتوب والمَمْلوء، بل يدخل فيه، باعتباره من طبيعته، سنكون، حتماً، خارج النَّصّ، نكتفي بقراءة السواد، مثل الأعمى الذي يتآلف مع ليله الذي لا نهار فيه. هذا ما سَعَتْ حداثة الكتابة أن تذهب إليه، تخرج من الشِّعْر بالصوت، إلى الشِّعْر بالصمت، بالشُّقُوق والتَّصَدُعات، وبأشكال الوجود الشَّاغرة، لأنَّ الشِّعْر ليس مَلْأً، بل هو محوٌ وإخفاء، ونزُوع إلى السِّر، إلى الغامض، وإلى ما نبذل جُهْداً لبلوغه، لا ما يكون مُعْطًى، يصلنا حتَّى قبل أن نبحث عنه أو نرغب في الوصول إليه. في حداثة الكتابة، نحن، إذن، إزاء الكتابة بالنُّقْصان، بالإفراغ، بالإزاحة والإخفاء، كتابة تُوارِي، وتكتفي بالأثر، أو بما يَحُلُّ محلّ الأثر."
