يعد فن "الأفراد والغرائب" من أدق فنون علم الحديث على الإطلاق، إذ يستوجب لمن تجشّم له أن يكون حافظاً متقناً، عالماً بحال الرواة في شيوخهم والآخذين عنهم، مع نقد كل رواية على حِدة بما احتفّت به من قرائن.
ولما كان الأمر كذلك يفرد مؤلف هذا الكتاب خليل بن محمد العربي الحديث في هذا الإصدار لمنهج الإمام الذهبي في كلامه على "الأفراد والغرائب"، حيث يوضح اعتناء الإمام بأحكام المتقدمين على المرويات الغريبة، والتي تفرّد بها أحد الرواة اعتناءً فائقاً، قناعة منه بأن النقاد المتقدمين لم القدم الراسخة في علم الحديث الشريف، ولا سيّما علم العلل، والأفراد والضرائب. وبهذا المعنى كان الإمام الذهبي – رحمه الله – يسوق في ترجمة الراوي ما تفرّد به، ثم يذكر أحكام الأئمة على هذه الرواية الغريبة، وبيان من تفرد بها.
وفي هذا السياق أيضاً يأتي عمل محقق هذا الإصدار "الأفراد والغرائب" حيث عمل على استخراج نصوصه وذكر كل المرويات الغريبة، والتي تفرد بها أحد رواة إسنادها. ونسّب كل قول لقائله، واعتنى في تخريجه للرواية الغريبة بأن ذكر أقوال الئمة المتقدمين في حكمهم عل الرواية بالغرابة، واقتصر في هذا الكتاب على من أخرج الرواية من مصنفه، مع ذكر أقوالهم فيها، دون ذكر المتابعات والشواهرد، ولهذا فقد تم ترتيب المرويات الغريبة على مسانيد الصحابة الكرام رضي الله عنهم، وجعله على حروف المعجم، والبدء بتقديم مسانيد العشرة المبشرين بالجنة رضوان الله عليهم.
وعلى هذا توزع العمل في هذا الإصدار على الشكل الآتي: 1- نبذة حول كتاب "الأفراد والغرائب"، 2- منهج الإمام الذهبي في كلامه على "الأفراد والغرائب" ، عمل المحقق في هذا الكتاب ويشتمل على المحاور الآتية: "مسند الصحابي" ، "المبهمات" ، "المرسيل" ، "مسانيد النساء رضي الله عنهن أجمعين".
