عرفت الأندلس في القرن الخامس الهجري والسادس نهضة حديثية، أسسها وساهم فيها محدثون كبار، ومُسندون أعلام، قعدوا للتحديث والإسماع في أنحاء الأندس في قرطبة ومُرسيه والمَريَّة وغيرها من مدن الأندلس التي ازدحمت بأفواج من طلبة العلم النبوي. ومن هؤلاء الأعلام المحدثين يسلط هذا الكتاب الضوء على "محدث قرطبة" وهو الحافظ أبو بحر الأندلسي وجهوده في نشر الحديث في الأندلس، بالإضافة إلى الراوية المُسند "حاتم بن محمد الطرابلسي" المعروف بإبن الطرابلسي القرطبي وروايته للحديث في الأندلس.
يبدأ الكتاب بنبذة عن العصر الأندلسي وعصر أبي بحر الأسدي وعنايته بعلم الحديث، حيث يلفت المؤلف إلى النهضة العلمية الرائدة التي شهدتها الأندلس في القرن الخامس الهجري على الرغم من تراجعها العسكري في عهد ملوك الطوائف. فقد أثمر هذا العصر تقدماً في "فنون من العلم كالتفسير والحديث والفقه والأدب والطب والرياضيات وغير ذلك". يتبع ذلك عرضاً لحياة أبي بحر الأندلسي وأهم المصادر التي تُرجمت له. وموارد إطلاع أبي بحر على علم الحديث يل مع نبذة عن أعمالهم. يلي ذلك: أسانيد أبي بحر الأسدي في رواية كتب الحديث منها: موطأ الإمام ماالذي شرُف بحمله ونقله إلى مَنْ بعده، وعلى رأسهم مشايخه ورواته وسامعيه، حيث يذكرهم المؤلف بالتفصيل، وصحيح الإمام البخاري، وصحيح مسلم وغيرها. ثم يعرض المؤلف لمنزلة أبي بحر بين علماء عصره، وطبقات ألآخرين عن ابي بحر ألسدي، ومجالسه الحديثية في "الجوامع" وفي "داره العامرة" منزله، والكتب المقروءة على ابي بحر الأسدي، إلى آخر ذلك من مساهماته في الدرس الحديثي في الأندس. أما القسم الثاني من الكتاب فخصص للسيرة العلمية لحاتم بن محمد الطرابلسي وأثر مدرسته في الدرس الحديثي وأهم مشايخه، والكتب العلمية التي يرويها حاتم بن محمد الطرابلسي، والعلوم التي برز فيها ومنها الفقه. ويختتم الكتاب بفوائد تُروى في كتب أهل الغرب الإسلامي وغيرهم تفيد بتردد إسم حاتم بن محمد الطرابلسي في رواية الحديث.
