سخر السياب ينبوعه الشعري للتعبير عن المعاناة الفكرية والصحية والإجتماعية، وقد استلهم من هذه المعاناة قيماً شعرية أسبغت على فكرهِ توجهاً سوداوياً ساد أعماله الإبداعية، ولكن ذلك لم يمنعه من إظهار هذا الإنزواء الفكري على نحو يثير القلق والتساؤل، وهما فعلان شعريان احتلا مساحة كبيرة في عموم شعره، حيث استطاع السياب أن يتخذ من الطاقة التعبيرية لأسلوب الإستفهام قوة تخدم فكرة القلق، إذ أن الإستفهام أسلوب تعبيري، تتحقق فيه للشاعر آفاق من الرؤية والخيال.
نظراً لإحتواء هذا الأسلوب على أدوات خاصة بمقدورها أن تثير العوالم الرحبة في هذه الآفاق فالإستفهام غرض بلاغي، نقع فيه على قيم تعبيرية شتى، فلا غرابة إذن، أن يترادف الإستفهام عند السياب مع حالات إنسانية مختلفة، أنه يتعاضد مع المرضى مع البكاء مع الأنين مع الحسرة واللوعة، لذا كثر ورود الأنماط الإستفهامية في شعره، وجاءت هذه الكثرة لتشير إلى حالة نفسية تمثل نزوع السياب الدائم إلى البحث عن الراحة والإطمئنان، وتمثل أيضاً سعيه إلى معرفة الحقيقة، هذه الحقيقة التي تقود في نفس المشاعر إلى مزيد من التساؤل لعدم الشعور باليقين النفسي إزاء رغبة الإكتفاء التي كان السياب يحلم بها.
وخصصنا الفصل الثاني (البنية الإستفهامية في شعر السياب) لتحديد أبعاد الجملة الإستفهامية في شعره، وانتقلنا في الفصل الثالث (الزمن الإستفهامي في شعر السياب) إلى دراسة مسألة الزمن في الجملة الإستفهامية عند السياب، وانعقد الفصل الرابع على (المعنى الإستفهامي في شعر السياب) على بحث مفهوم المعنى الإستفهامي عند السياب، بوصفه معنى عرضياً مستنتجاً من تصور ذهني ينبغي أن يرافق مستوى الأداء في جملة الإستفهام.
