إن دراسة موضوع اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في لبنان غالباً ما تتم بمصطلحات تقصد إثارة المشاعر في خضم مختلف الأزمات. لكن الدراسات في هذا الكتاب تحاول أن تنظر إلى ما وراء الأزمات بغية سبر غور الواقع المُعاش للفلسطينيين في لبنان والطرق المتعددة التي يظهرون بها هويتهم. كيف ينظرون إلى أنفسهم؟ ما هي الأشكال التي تتجسد فيها هويتهم. وكيف تأثرت بالمحيط المضيف؟ كيف تؤثر ممارساتهم لفلسطينيتهم في محيطهم أو تتفاعل معه؟ إلى أي مدى تغير وضعهم في لبنان خلال العقود الستة الماضية منذ أن شردتهم إسرائيل؟ ما هي الأساليب التي تتبعها السلطات اللبنانية والمجتمع اللبناني بصورة عامة لجعلهم محجوبين؟ كيف يرتبط هذا الحجْب بوضع التجمعات الفلسطينية الأخرى داخل فلسطين وخارجها؟ كيف يرون توقع عودتهم إلى فلسطين؟ وعليه، فإن هذه الدراسات تتناول الحياة الفلسطينية من عدة جوانب من عملية تمدين المخيمات إلى كيفية رؤية الشباب لأنفسهم. كذلك تأخذ الدراسات في الاعتبار عدة أنماط لبلورة الهوية الفلسطينية: من الزواج إلى موسيقى الراب(rap).
