لقد من الله على الأردن وفلسطين بالآثار والمقدسات القيمة النفسية بما لا يوجد له مثيل في كثير من أقطار العالم، ففي الأردن وفلسطين آثار تحكي حقائق ماض تليد ومدنيات عريقة تبدأ منذ آلاف السنين، أي منذ العصور الحجرية، فالعصور البرونزية، فالإغريقية، والرومانية والبيزنطية... ثم روعة الحضارة العربية الإسلامية.
هذا الغنى الملحوظ فيما اكتشف حتى الآن من أثر الإنسان في الأردن وفلسطين عبر تلك العصور منذ آلاف السنين، وهو قليل من كثير إذ ما يزال الكثير من الآثار وبقايا المدن وثروة مدفونة تحت رمال لم تكتشف بعد. آثار في عمان، والبترا، وبيت لحم، ونابلس، وأم قيس، ومادبا، وجرش، قصور في قلب البادية الأردنية، مساجد وكنائس في القدس، قلاع في العقبة... ضرائح الأنبياء في القدس، والخليل، وضرائح الصحابة في مؤته والأغوار، هذا الترابط التاريخي العريق، منذ عهد الإنسان الأول بين فلسطين والأردن، لم يكن وليد الصدقة، بل هو نتيجة ترابط أممي، ويشهد على ذلك نهر الأردن المقدس منذ الأزل.
في هذا الإطار يأتي هذا الكتاب الذي يعرض لبعض الصور القديمة المتلقطة عن الأردن وفلسطين من قبل رحالة زاروا هذه البلاد منذ عقود مضت، واستعونهم حضارتها وآثارها وماضيها والعريق، كما ويقدم تعليقاً مختصراً ثلاثي اللغة (عربي، إنكليزي، فرنسي) على كل صورة ومشهد حي جاء طرحه في الكتاب، ومما تجدر الإشارة إليه هو أن المشاهد التي تعرضها هذه الصور مأخوذة من واقع المجتمع الأردني والفلسطيني وهي إما تصور منطقة معينة أو منزل تاريخي، أو أثر قديم أو حتى لقطة عابرة لمشهد معين كمرور دوريات من جنود البادية، أو زيادة أحد الملوك أو الرؤساء لمنطقة معينة...
