يحتوي هذا الكتاب على أربعة أقسام، الأول يروي مجريات المفاوضات الفلسطينية-الإسرائيلية في عهد الجنرال باراك وزمن الرئيس الأمريكي كلينتون، وبخاصة مفاوضات قمة كامب ديفيد التي شارك فيها الرؤساء الأمريكي بيل كلينتون والفلسطيني عرفات والإسرائيلي باراك، ومحادثات طابا التي تمت على أبواب الانتخابات الإسرائيلية في شباط/فبراير 2001.
وفي القسم الثاني يجد القارئ، رواية قصة الانتفاضة وما رافقها من مفاوضات واتصالات بدءاً من لحظة انفجارها في ساحة المسجد وحتى سقوط الجنرال باراك. ويحتوي القسم الثالث تفاعلات سقوط هذا الجنرال وفوز الجنرال شارون على عملية السلام وعموم منطقة الشرق الأوسط وخصوصاً على الانتفاضة وأهلها في السلطة وخارجها وعلى علاقتهم بالإسرائيليين.
أما القسم الرابع، فهو عبارة عن اجتهاد خاص فيه قراءة مبكرة لتفاعلات الانتفاضة وأثرها على الأوضاع الفلسطينية وفيه أيضاً مغامرة فكرية تتضمن إجابة أولية عن الأسئلة المطروحية بشأن مستقبل الانتفاضة ومصير عملية السلام. كما وفي الكتاب قراءة نقدية لسلبيات "انتفاضة القدس والاستقلال" وهذه العملية كما يقول الناقد مسألة مشروعة كما يعتقد، وضرورية وطنية فلسطينية لا غنى عنها بنظره لكشف نواقص العمل وثغراته وتحديد الخلل وتدارك الأخطاء قبل استفحالها، واستخلاص مستلزمات التصحيح والتطوير. وبدون ذلك بحسب رأي الناقد والذي هو مؤلف الكتاب إلى عمل عادي مليء بالأمراض تتعايش داخله العناصر السلبية مع الإيجابية وهذا الاختلاط يؤدي في أحيان كثيرة إلى الارتباك والضعف والتراجع.
