ليس من السهل ولوج عالم خليفة بن سلطان العبري القصصي، مع أنه ليس صعباً منذ الوهلة الأولى؛ أنه نوع من السهل الممتنع، أو الصعب المتاح. ففي جديده "فنجان عند سوق مطرح" يلتقط الروائي ملامح شخوصه وهو يتقصى أفعالهم ويرصدها لأول مرة لنكتشف معاً نحن والروائي مجانية الحياة وسطحيتها عبر راوٍ يقف إما أمام الصحراء ليشهد ولادة (هيما) راعية قطيع الغنم، كما في قضية "مهرة" أو ما بين زواريب "سوق مطرح" ليراقب بائع القهوة "سالم مكنون" الذي لا يدرك سراً إصراراً العديد من المترددين إلى السوق على إحتساء قهوته رغم تكائر المقاهي التي تقدم القهوة وتوفر مقاعد الجلوس.
هكذا يقرأ عالم "خليفة العبري" بكل ثقله فهو لا يميل إلى التعقيد ولا تعنيه التفاصيل الكثيرة في بنائه الفني، بل لأسلوب الموجز والشفيف الذي تقوم فكرته على التقاط موجة حسية لدى الروائي للحظة مقطرة مستمدة من حياة الناس البسطاء وعلى عكس ما نتوقع؛ إنهم راضون وسعداء أكثر من غيرهم بكثير.
يضم الكتاب (11) قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "الوصول حيث البحر"، "كيس الدنجو"، "فنجان عند سوق مطرح"، "أملاك خاصة"، "بترول"، "شفقة المعدن"...إلخ.
