كثيرة هي المؤلفات التي تتحدث عن الغزو المغولي للوطن العربي، وعن المذابح التي ارتكبها الغزاة في كل مكان كانو يحلون به. ولكن معظم تلك المؤلفات لم تكن لتهتم بأحداث نراها هامة في تاريخنا مرور الكرام، ودون توسع أو تبحر.
لذلك يعتبر كتابنا هذا "تيمورلنك في دمشق" من الكتب الأكثر أهمية بالنسبة للقارئ العربي، لكونه يتحدث بالتفصيل عن يوميات الغزو المغولي لكل من دمشق وحلب. ويستعرض الفضائح والأهوال التي ارتكبها الغزاة في هاتين المدينتين بطرق سادية لم يشهد لها التاريخ مثيلاً من قبل. ويكفي أن نذكر بعضاً منها والتي تتمثل بقتله لحوالي أربعين ألف طفل بسنابك الخيل بعدها أمر بتجميعهم خارج مدينة دمشق. وكذلك حالات اغتصاب النساء في المساجد وأمام أعين الجميع، ثم التفنن بتعذيب الرجال الأسرى قبل قتلهم بوحشية لا توصف.
أنها أحداث تقشعر من هولها الأبدان، ينقلها لنا المؤلف على لسان شهود عيان، عاصروا تلك المرحلة وشهدوا فيها أبشع أنواع الذل والهوان.
