رغم الكتابات الكثيرة والوفيرة التي تناولت تاريخ دمشق عبر الأزمان والعصور لكن أياً منها لم يؤرخ جميع الولاة والخلفاء، والأمراء والوزراء والملوك والرؤساء الذين تناوبوا على السلطة منذ الأيام الأولى لدخول المسلمين إلى دمشق حتى عصرنا الحاضر.
كذلك أفرد دراسات تفصيلية عن كل مرحلة سياسية وجعلها مقدمات للكتابة على الحكام الذين تضمنتهم تلك المرحلة مروراً بالعصر الأموي والعباسي والأيوبي والمملوكي.
كما أفرد بحثاً خاصاً عن الغزو المغولي لمدينة دمشق والمآسي التي تعرض لها أهل هذه المدينة في تلك الفترة، ومن ثم كتب عن العثمانيين والفرنسيين... والحكومات الوطنية والهزات السياسية التي رافقت تلك الفترة.
