أودع المؤلف "عبد الوهاب عبد السلام" في هذا الكتاب خلاصة معلوماته ونتائج تجاربه الطويلة كمدرس لمراحل تعليمية مختلفة، وكمدرس أيضاً في معاهد إعداد المعلمين، ومن ثم كموجه لمادة التربية الإسلامية في مدارس الهيئة الملكية بمدينة ينبع الصناعية. وهدفه من جمع قادة هذا الكتاب أن تقدم للمدرس أحدث الطرق المبتكرة في فن التدريس وذلك ليمكنه في آداء عمله وفقاً لتطور الأساليب، واعتداداً بالتقدم الملموس استهل المؤلف كتابه بفكرة موجزة عن نظرية التربية الإسلامية وأسسها العامة، ثم انتقل للتعريف بالأهداف التربوية ومستوياتها وجوانبها وصياغتها.
وبعد ذلك عرض لطرق التدريس قديمها وحديثها، وأنواع كلٍّ وتقويمه ومن ثم وضع مراحل إعداد الدروس، وطرق تدريس كل مادة، مع نماذج تطبيقية، وفي مرحلة لاحقة بين دور الوسائل التعليمية، وذكر أنواعها وصور استخدامها في التربية الإسلامية، ونبه إلى أهمية النشاط المدرسي، وشخّص أسباب ضعف الطلاب في تلاوة القرآن الكريم، مبيناً وسائل العلاج، كما وذكر الصفات والآداب التي يجب أن يتحلى بها المدرس، مظهراً الفرق بين رسالة المدرس وعمل الموظف، وأخيراً عني بالحديث عن كيفية معالجة التقويم التربوي أهدافاً وأساليب ووسائل.
