إن كلًا من اليهود والنصارى والمسلمين، ينتظر المسيح الذي يأتي في آخر الزمان ليدمر أعداء الله، ويعلي كلمته، ويتفق المسلمون والنصارى على أنه هو المسيح عيسى ابن مريم عليه السلام، وسوف ينزل من السماء. غير أن للنصارى نظريات كثيرة مختلفة في نزوله، وهو ما يسمونه الرجاء المبارك، وقد قام كثير من البلبلة والاضطرابات حول عودته فمنذ أن رفع إلى السماء وهم يحددون عودته بنهاية القرن الأول تارة، وبالعصر الألفي أخرى، مع أن ذلك اليوم قد اختص الله بعلمه، فلم يطلع عليه أحدًا من خلقه كما تذكر نصوص انجيلي متى ومرقس. والكلام عن عودة المسيح الذي تنتظره الملل الثلاث، يؤدي إلى البحث عن حقيقة المسيح ومهامه، قبل رفعه إلى السماء وبعد عودته إلى الأرض؛ فإن في ذلك تباينًا كبيرًا بين ثلاثة أديان تنتظره. وفي هذا الإطار جاء الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته حاول فيه المؤلف عرض وجهة نظر كل ملة من المصادر والمراجع المعتمدة، ليقوم من ثم بإجراء موازنة بينها، وذلك تتميمًا للفائدة.
