الكتاب محاولة لإعادة التذكير بمسألة الوجود بدل التلهي بما هو موجود ومصنوع. ودعوة لاستبدال قيم التعاطف والتراحم والتسامح بدلاً من التنافس والتزاحم والحسد. وإعادة الاعتبار لمجالسة الأصدقاء وإعطائها الأفضلية على الجلوس إلى التلفاز أو الكمبيوتر. وإعادة الاعتبار للعلاقات المباشرة بدلاً من "التشاتينغ". والسعي لزيادة ساعات الفراغ بدلاً من السعي لزيادة ساعات العمل واستغلالها للمشي في الطبيعة والخروج من ضوضاء المدن، والتخفيف من نزعة حب التملك والاستهلاك المادي والتوجه نحو حب التعمًق والامتلاء النفسي.
