ولد وفيق غريزي في بتاتر في جبل لبنان عام 1942 وهو شاعر وناقد وباحث. تلقى علومه الثانوية والجامعية في القاهرة ومارس التعليم في عدد من ثانويات الجبل.

وفيق غريزي شاعر مبدع وناقد طليعي لبناني وعربي، ومثقف مميز جداً... اتخذ من شوبنهاور موضوعاً لكتاب عنه عنونه: شوبنهاور وفلسفة التشاؤم. وقد قرأت هذا الكتاب المغاير لسواه بنهم وشغف، فأدركت لم أن قلم المؤلف الشاعر والناقد والأديب وفيق غرزي تعمق في هذا الفيلسوف، ووفاه حقه من جهاته كلها، مفجراً كلماته ليغدو بعضها إشارات مستقبلية ترشدنا إلى أهمية هذا الفيلسوف الشامل، الذي تأثر بأفلاطون وكانط والبوذية، والفكر الهندي بعامة (الفيدا) واعتبر أن العالم شر، وأن العبقري يعيش في شقاء، والذي أحس براحة كبرى بعد أن شاخ وتفلت من قيود الشهوات، فأعطانا كتابه الشهير –المرجع العالم كإرادة وكتصور.
وفيق غريزي جال وساح في عالم الفلسفة أيضاً، حتى قدم لنا كتاباً بهذا المستوى المميزة الشامل عن فيلسوف مميز شامل. فقد رسم لنا صورة عن شوبنهاور تكاد تلمسها بيديك وعينيك وفكرك وصوتك... هذا لأنه كناز معرفة يبحث عن الجليل والجميل من الأعمال ليقدمها للقارئ اللبناني والعربي، وقد ذكرني بقول نيتشه الذي صرخ ذات مرة قائلاً إنه لم يجد كتاباً جديرأً بالقراءة. لكن وفيق غريزي قدم لنا كتاباً يقرأ من الغلاف إلى الغلاف، نظراً لتعمق المؤلف في فلسفة شوبنهاور وإعجابه بها: فضمن كتابه معظم ما ورد عند شوبنهاور في حديثه عن الفن المعماري والنحت والتصوير والشعر والمسرحي والموسيقى، مظهراً لنا حقده على المرأة لأن والدته قد عاشت على هواها، فحقد عليها وعبرها على كل النساء!
