ويتضمن هذا الكتاب دراسة وثائقية لأصول نسب قبيلة عتيبة وفروعها حين تطرق المؤلف في الباب الأول من الكتاب إلى سبب تسمية بني سعد بعتيبة وتحدث عن كل من اشتهر بإسم عتيبة، أما الباب الثاني فاختص بالحديث عن نسب قبيلة عتيبة، حيث تحدث الفصل الأول عن روايات رواة عتيبة من أنسابهم وضم الفصل الثاني النصوص الواردة في كتب التاريخ والأنساب عن نسب عتيبة.
وتضمن الفصل الثالث الأدلة عن نفي نسب بني سعد عن هوازن، وعنون الباب الثالث بحلف شبابة حيث تم الحديث في الفصل الأول عن حلف قبائل شبابة، والفصل الثاني عن نسب قبيلة شبابة، وفي الفصل الثالث علاقتهم ببني سعد، أما الباب الرابع والأخير فتم التطرف فيه إلى فروع قبيلة عتيبة، وختم المؤلف بخاتمة ودروس.
