في تقديمه للكتاب يتحدث سامر أبو هواش في ما يميز شعر مارك ستراند فيقول: "ولعل علاقة ستراند الوثيقة بالفنّ التشكيلي (بدأ حياته الفنّيّة كرسّام، ودرس الرَّسْم لفترة، قبل أن ينتقل إلى الشِّعْر)، تُشكِّل عنصراً حاسماً في بناء القصيدة لديه، حيثُ نشعر أن الكثير من قصائده يُولَد من مشهد خارجي، يقود إلى العالم الداخلي المتشابك للشاعر، لترتسم في النهاية «شخصية» أو «بطل» القصيدة (وصف في تقديمه للكتاب يتحدث سامر أبو هواش في ما يميز شعر مارك ستراند فيقول: "ولعل علاقة ستراند الوثيقة بالفنّ التشكيلي (بدأ حياته الفنّيّة كرسّام، ودرس الرَّسْم لفترة، قبل أن ينتقل إلى الشِّعْر)، تُشكِّل عنصراً حاسماً في بناء القصيدة لديه، حيثُ نشعر أن الكثير من قصائده يُولَد من مشهد خارجي، يقود إلى العالم الداخلي المتشابك للشاعر، لترتسم في النهاية «شخصية» أو «بطل» القصيدة (وصف ستراند الشخوص في لوحات الرسّام الأمريكي إدوارد هوبر الذي وضع كتاباً عن عمله بعنوان «هوبر» بأنها «شخصيات» لا بمعنى أنها «تلعب أدواراً»، كما في الشخصيات المسرحية أو السينمائية، ولكنْ، بمعنى أنه يصبح لها كينونتها وحياتها الخاصّة داخل اللوحة)، وخلال عملية الرَّسْم هذه تُولَد المفاجأة الشِّعْرية، أو ما يصفه الشاعر بـ «سيطرة اللغة على القصيدة».
يواصل أبو هواش: «لا ينطلق ستراند في كتابة الشِّعْر، أو فلسفة الشِّعْر، من سمات واضحة أو نهائية أو مواضعات وتصنيفات شائعة، ومتّفق عليها، سواء كانت الرمزية أم السريالية أم التعبيرية، إلخ. القصيدة عند ستراند تعيش حياتها الخاصّة، وتصنع نفسها، وعوالمها، خلال تشكُّلها، مع الكثير من المناطق الشاغرة (الغموض) الذي يقول ستراند إن عمل القارئ ملأه، القارئ بوصفه شريكاً في حياة القصيدة، وليس مُتلقِّياً لها فحسب.
مع ذلك، فإنه ضمن عالم ستراند البديل الثابت هذا، ثمّة عوالم تُولَد باستمرار، ومشهديات تتبدّل، وفقاً للتّحوّلات التي يشهدها الشاعر نفسه: حياة العائلة، والسَّفَر، والطبيعة، والأصدقاء، والشباب، والشيخوخة، الحبّ، إلخ.»..
