هذا الكتاب يستكشف شعر مارك ستراند يابسة حياتنا, مسحوراً بالفراغ, ليس غريباً أن يفهم ستراند القصيدة كوصف للغياب, لكن في الوقت نفسه تتعثر رؤيته باستمرار بالواقع الخامل و البليد للأشياء و الكائنات و قد سقطت بشكل نهائي في شرك وجود وحشي, مع ذلك تقدم كينونة كل شيء و كل فرد نفسها بدقة كغياب للمعني: الكينونة تلغي الدلالة. هكذا يكون الحضور البوح بالغياب و الغياب بدوره يفتح لنا أبواب الامتلاء البسيط: هذا هو الاحتفال, الاحتفال الوحيد, اذا منحت نفسك فيه الى اللاشيءفسوف تشفى. لقد اختار مارك ستراند الطريق السلبي, مع الخسران كالخطوة الأولى صوب الامتلاء, لكنه أيضاً الانفتاح على اكتمال كلامي شفاف. مصنوعة من كلمات متحولة و هشة, تحول القصيدة نفسها الى المرأة حيث الألم نائم. الصمت متخف في كل شيء و كل كائن يتحول الى اسم.
