إن غرائبية (كواسيمودو) غنائية فهي قصائد عميقة ولكن دون ذكاء، ماهر ة ولكن دون حيلة أو مكر. وهي بالرغم من أنها تصدر عن خبرة شخصية عالية النبرة إلا أنها تحقق المعاني الأوسع. وهذه القصائد لم تترجم شعرا بل نثرا، شأن الكثير مما يترجم إلى العربية من شعر وهذه القصائد تزدحم بعلامات الإستفهام، تتحدث عن البراءة وفقدانها ،عن الحيوانات والزروع، وعن الكون. إنها تعبر عن حاسة من ينتمي لعوالم ضائعة، مدحورة، منفعية وقمعية. قصائده تمثل بحثا عن معنى في زمن تلاشت فيه المعاني. وبالرغم من مباشرتها تبدو هذه القصائد غامضة، ملغزة. إن ثمة قوة تختفي وراءها تبدد تعارضاتها الظاهرة على السطح لتكشف عن كون لم يقتحم بعد. على قارئ هذه القصائد أن يستسلم لها وفق أهائها هي. وهي بالرغم من أنها تصدر عن خبرة شخصية عالية إلا أنها تحقق معاني أوسع.
ولد في جزيرة ((سيسلي )) -ايطاليا عام 1909 . عمل في شبابه الأول عاملا ميكانيكيا في باليرمو . في ميلان درس الأدب الإيطالي بمعهد فيردي للموسيقى ، دخل مباشرة إلى ميدان التعليم . وابتدء من 1929 صار استاذا جامعيا . صدرت مجموعته الأولى ((مياه ويابسة )) عام 1930 حصل على جائزة ((سان بابليا )) عام 1950 وفي عام 1955 تناصف جائزة ((ايتناورمينا )) مع الشاعر الويلزي ديلان توماس . وفي عام 1958 حصل على جائزة ((مايريجيو )) . حصل على جائزة نوبل عام 1959 . ل ((كواسيمود ))، إلى جانب نشاطه الشعري ، مشاركات فلسفية . ومن كتبه في هذا الحقل : ((الروح فعل خالص ))1937 ، ((مذهب المنطق من حيث هو نظرية للمعرفة )) 1946 و (( فلسفة الفن )) 1949 . هذا الكتاب هو أول تعريف به وبشعره في العربية . توفي في 14 آب 1968 .
