هذا هو الكتاب الاسود الثاني الذي ينشر في مصر في غضون 3 سنوات. هذا الكتاب يكشف عن الظروف المخيفة التى يحيا فى ظلها فقراء مصر, والحالة المزرية التى آلت إليها مستشفيات القطر المصرى كله. مادة هذا الكتاب استقيتها من خلاصة تسع مذكرات كتبتها حين تواجدى بمصر, بالإضافة إلى استعانتى بالعديد من الأوراق الخاصة بالمستشفى التى عملت بها فى مصر. أما عنوان هذا الكتاب فقد أو من مقدمة المؤلف:

مؤلف الكتاب طبيب إنجليزى ولد بجنوب أفريقيا وعمل بمستشفيات بريطانيا وكان تركيزه دائما على تدريب الأطباء الشباب على المهارات الإكلينيكية السريرية وكيفية الإهتمام الحقيقى بالمرضى كبشر يعانون وفى حاجة إلى يد المساعدة الحانية. جاءته فرصة للعمل بمستشفيات مصر بين عامى 1937 و 1943ورأى بطريقة مباشرة الفظائع التى يتعرض لها المرضى الفقراء . وهو يلقى باللوم على جهتين : الإحتلال الإنجليزى والحكومة المصرية والمسئولين عن الطب فى مصر
