أساطير الشعوب القديمة، ما هي إلا رموز تنطق بمجد الله الخالق المبدع عز وجل ، وقد كان للأساطير احترام عظيم ومنزلة كبيرة عند فلاسفة تلك الشعوب ومشاهير شعرائهم، يحدِّثون بها في نثرهم وشعرهم، ويتوسعون في تفاصيلها ، وهي لا تزال اليوم متعة النفوس لما فيها من الغرائب وجمال الخيال. وليس أمتع للنفوس من الغرائب والتخيلات؛ لأن الحقيقة، على جمالها وعظمتها، جافَّة جامدة، ترضي العقول، ولكنها لا تلامس الأرواح كما تلامسها الخرافات ، ولا سيما أن عصرنا هذا عصر مادَّة تغذي الجيوب، ولكنها لا تُشبِع الأرواح، تلك الأرواح التي يلذها، من حين إلى حين، أن تسيح في العوالم الخيالية لتُنزِّه عنها وتُفرِّج همومها.
