في روايته الجديدة "سَهَو" يتحرى عبد الحفيظ الشمرّي إشكالية العلاقة بين الظروف والإنسان. فكل إنسان إلى أي مجتمع انتمى أو طبقة هو نتاج الظروف، التي يمكن أن تكون دافعاً للنجاح أو للسقوط والذي لا بد أن ينعكس تغييراً في سلوك الإنسان وتصرفاته. من هنا عمل "الشمرّي" على رصد آخر مشاهد العزلة التي يمر بها أبناء الطبقات المسحوقة والمهمشة و(المتبعة) كما يحلو للروائي تسميتها على نحو المتشبثين في ريفيتهم "هؤلاء الذين لا يفضلون – على الدوام – التحول عن قيم يتشبثون بها سواء كانت على صواب أم خطأ" فقد جعل الروائي للشخصية المحورية "سهو" في هذا العمل قوة عجيبة وصبراً فريداً في مجالدة الواقع ومشاكسته، بل والإفصاح عن كل تفاصيل المعاناة التي يعيشها على مدى يقارب الثلاثة عقود. "... فبقاء هذا الرجل قرابة ثلاثة عقود في العاصمة لم يضف شيئاً رغم الوعود بحصاد وفير من سني الدأب .. فلم يجد بين يديه بعد ذهاب العمر سوى قبض الريح، ومزيد من الإدلاج في متاهة الحياة المعاندة ...". هذا الرجل الذي اختاره الروائي للتعبير عن شريحة واسعة من أبناء المجتمع العربي التي تتوخى الخلاص قد تخطىء أحياناً، فالخلاص دونه عقبات يدفع البعض إلى التهور والنزف على نحو ما حل بـ "سهو" حينما سقط في نهايات أليمة من دون أن يحقق ولو نزراً يسيراً من طموحاته وأحلامه ووعود من حوله بحياة أفضل. وبهذا يكون عبد الحفيظ الشمري قد ساهم من خلال "سَهَو" في إشراك القارىء في بناء وعي مميز فيه الكثير من الحذر – الحذر من السقوط -.
