"خرجت... خرجت على شجر الشوك، أبحث عن معجزة، سربْت... سربْت وفي أرض بابل صومٌ عن الوجد، غابات حزن تخوم النهارات فيها، دموع الليالي تطوف وفي أعيني صور الحلم يحتجزه، سربْت... وهمت كما هام جلجامش الأمس، في قلبه برعم من أسى، صفوف من الطلع عبر عذوق اللآلي، خرجت... كما يخرج الطيف من وتر الشوق للدمعة الموجزة... حبيبي رفيقي اختفى كما البرق في غيمه الزعفران، تعجبت من صدمة الدهشة اليوم، ساءلت في حجرة الروح، كيف انطوى ذلك العنفوان، وكنّا الجموح..."الشتات" قصائد حداثة ومعاصرة... مليئة بإحساس المؤلفة المتدفق والمؤلم... إنها حصيلة مؤلمة لتاريخ سياسي مبدئي وطموح نابع من القلب وهي أيضاً قصائد حب متوقدة وانعكاس لتجربة معاشه وفيها الشيء الكثير من الرثاء لإيصال منسيين عبروا جسر مملكة الموت وخلف الستار السياسي للأحداث هم الآن ذكرى فقط لأبطال حقيقيين كان بعضهم في الظل واصحوا كلهم فيه... عن طبيعة التجربة الشعرية هي التي تحدد شكل القصيدة ومحورها وصورها وأسلوبها وتشكيلها إضافة إلى رؤيا الشاعر وتقنيته ومنظوره الفني... هذه الطبيعة هي التي حددت شكل هذه المجموعة من القصائد حيث أنها قد جاءت بلغة التجربة المعاصرة نفسها وعلى شكل العمود الشعري... وهذه الطريقة في كتابة الشعر مستجدة بالنسبة للشاعرة "أمال الزهاوي" التي لم يسبق لها أن كتبت أية قصائد عمودية في مجاميعها الشعرية السابقة.
من أي زاوية يستنفر الأرق؟ يا ليل بغداد.. يسترخي به الأرق.. يا دجلة تحصن الغافين ساهرة.. فما استطالت مرايا.. وارتمى الشفق.. مفاجآت تعرت حولنا حمماً.. في أعين فزعت.. والليل يحترق... ما للسماوات ضجت كل قبتها.. من كل شيء غريب اللون يفترق..
