"أي عراق أنت؟ ولأي مدى في العنف تحولت وبأي الأشكال تجسدت تتلظى في أردية الفتنة غيظاً بعضك يضرب بعضاً لتعاني ما عانيت عصف.. عصف يتوالى أمسكت على قلق كل مناديل ودادي وعلى فيض شراييني.. وبلهفة أوردتي انكشفت أحلام فؤادي لما صليت على سجادة عمري في ظل بلادي وبها قلقي وسهادي".
عندما أكملت هذا الديوان (آبار النقمة) وأعددته للنشر مع ديوان آهر (نجمة سومرية) المتضمن قصيدة واحدة طويلة التي تصور أيام الحرب وأحاسيسها، وكلا الديوانين كتبتهما بعد الحرب مباشرة ولم تزل الأحداث ساخنة داخل النفس، وهذه حالة نادرة، وأول مرى أكتب فيها ديوانين معاً، فقد لاحظت أن الأنا تختفي غالباً إلا في النادر، كما تتجلى الكثير من تمتمات النفس وكأنه ليس هناك علاقة بالجو المشحون والقنابل العنقودية وأزيز الطائرات وأكوام الجثث المجهولة والمكدسة.
وتبدو أيضاً السريالية والرمزية المبثوثة في نسيج الصدمة والغرابة وعدم تصديق الواقع بما فيه من أحداث، إنه البحث عن مجسات النجاة في النفس والتحليق في أجزاء ما جرى من اللعب الجميل على اللغة، إنه نوع من الهروب والتنفيس في بعض القصائد أو لمجابهة الواقع وما فيه من تناقض وتصوير للحالات اليومية التي كانت تجري، إنه نتاج الحرب بكل ما فيها من ظاهر وباطن خفي في النفس ومشع عنها، وإلا ماذا يستطيع أن يفعل الإنسان الشاعر في مثل هذه الظروف حتى تكون القوة القاهرة سيدة الموقف.
